Yuuichi is unexpectedly hospitalised for hepatitis at Wakaba Hospital in the winter of his junior year in high school. As he recovers, Yuuichi constantly escapes from his hospital room and is scolded daily by Nurse Akiko. Then one day, Yuuichi meets Rika, a girl his age, who is hospitalised in the adjoining wing. He is instantly attracted to the beautiful Rika, but discovers she is insufferably spoiled.
Yuuichi is confused by her unreasonable behaviour, but is drawn to her nevertheless. But when Rika confides in Yuuichi about her illness, he understands the reason for her wilful behaviour. Rika doesn't have long to live.
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora, also known as Hantsuki, is the title of a romance series written by Japanese author Tsumugu Hashimoto that centres around two adolescents in hospital and the love they begin to share.
Hantsuki was released on several different media types. It first began as a light novel series that were first serialised in the bimonthly magazine, Dengeki hp. The anime was adapted from the novels and first aired in Japan on the WOWOW television network on January 12, 2006 and finished with a total of six episodes. A manga serialisation began around the same time on February 27. A live action drama adaptation was aired between October to December 2006, produced by TV Tokyo.
